Sex Discrimination Costs Wal-Mart $2M
Some
The answer? Big-Box malls! Unless you’re a girl.
A jury awarded a fired Wal-Mart pharmacist $2 Million for getting canned after she requested the same pay as her male counterparts. But screwing workers is a Wal-Mart tradition.
Yep, Wal-Mart’ll be the glue that holds our kin together!
But at least our underpaid offspring will be in good company. They can stand in line with full-time county workers – who are also on public assistance.

Littleton, Colorado just voted down a Walmart -- overriding the intentions of their city council. Could it be that Americans are finally waking up to the reality that outsider corporations are really only interested in wealth extraction, and will say and do anything that attains that goal? Are we finally recognizing that supporting our local businesses and encouraging local start-ups makes much more sense than bending over to outsider chain stores with wrong-headed zoning changes and sweetheart tax breaks?
I read somewhere yesterday that Wal Mart is starting a program for free drop off for fluorescent light bulbs. Too bad we don't have a Wal Mart here because now you have to pay to drop off fluorescents at the hazardous waste depot at Eureka City Garbage.
Fred
According to "the County's new Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at the Hawthorne Street Transfer Station in Eureka" which is at the same location, but is not the same as City Garbage Company "Humboldt County offers a free collection to residents on the first Friday and Saturday of every month (excluding January and July). A $5.00 donation is requested, but not required."
You can read all about local recycling and hazardous waste disposal here.

FUNNIEST PERSONALIZED LICENSE PLATE:
FOR RICHER - seen on an Arkley ENTRY LEVEL BMW!!!!! Apparently the filthy rich have no taste and no class.
Either that, or they aren't as rich as they claim.
"EAT THE RICH"???? No thank you.
They obviously have bad taste.

Actually Heraldo - if you think the county needs economic growth...quit trying to put every viable attempt in the toilet. Just a suggestion!

FOR RICHER won't fit on a licence plate. And what model BMW was it?

Why not let the people decide if they want to walmart or not. I would think that if walmart was to build a store and NOBODY shopped there it would hurt them in the pocketbook more then all the bitchin and whining about what might happen if one was to come in. How do you think they would like it if every time they opened a new store (and had to do a big cleanup job) it was in finacial straits within 6 mo. Humboldt County ends up with a new building.
Unlike normal companies, WalMart can plod along through years of operating a store in the red. Six months is nothing. WalMart could stick it out while the competition goes out of business.
Heraldo, would you quit hyper-ventilating over Walmart already? The vast majority of people, especially in Foruna and the surrounding communities want a Walmart!! Get over it!! Maybe that doesn't fit into your Socialistic-utopian world view, but I seriously think you'll get over it once it's built on the old Palco site in Fortuna. You can still shop at Sears or Kmart, we'll take Walmart. Thanks.
Hey, have your WalMart and embrace your daughters getting discriminated against by an outside corporation. God bless your choice, however ignorantly made.
Socialistic-utopian world view? Yeah! gimme some of that! I don't want stuff made by slave labor. Oh, how far we have regressed. Made with pride in America has become meaningless. Lets just lay down and lick the boots of the Corporatism!
