Scrutiny on the Bounty

Following the Times-Standard's good advice, scrutiny on Maxxam and its jester judge in the kangaroo bankruptcy court continues to find its way into print. As you can see, the baseless decision to keep Pacific Lumber’s Chapter 11 proceedings in Texas has pumped up the volume of criticism.

In his column today, David Cobb notes that:

[A]n unelected (and unaccountable) federal judge in Texas decided that opening a tiny office with rented furniture in Corpus Christi was sufficient reason to allow the corporation to shirk its responsibility to this community and to its workers.

As outrageous as it is that the bankruptcy reorganization of Pacific Lumber will be conducted in Texas, it comes as no surprise. Courts only “discover” justice when ordinary people help them find it.

Perhaps the scrutiny is only the beginning.

To further inspect this charade of justice check out this week’s Town Dandy by Hank Sims. Hank’s been keeping track of the screws and wingnuts involved in the legalistic shenanigans. “So much for Judge [Richard] Schmidt,” Sims writes. “[Maxxam CEO Charles] Hurwitz chose his venue well.”

Going further, the Save Ancient Forests blog is ready for the next fight. A post entitled Hey Noteholders, Bring It On! is a reminder that attorneys threatened to sue Maxxam’s top brass for fraud “if a bankruptcy judge rules Scotia Pacific (Scopac), a California-based lumber company owned by Maxxam, can proceed with its Chapter 11 case in Texas.”

If the attorneys file Fraud Suit #3 they will no doubt receive a lot of support from Hurwitz-ravaged Humboldt County.

Comments:
How funny. Cobbs view that any judges decession on anything is Kangaroo style would imply that he uses critical thinking to develop his point of view. That would be false. Cobb is a simple recycle of every Soros org web. site. If you read the T/S and see Cobb and the subject line, thats all the real info you will find in the article. It's a given that all the nations problems come from Republicans, resource producers, and after the Virginia shootings, NRA members. The Texas judge didn't agree with you or Cobb. He must be corrupt.

Resource producers?

Resource producers? Not the brainwashed college kids with daddy's credit cards or the unlucky buisness getting sued.

Heraldo,

I am always leery of your site. You occasionally have good info and your commentary, while clearly biased, isn't full of lies--let's call it best foot forward.

I don't care about your anonymity, and while it's distatsteful that you censor your detractors in comments, you let a fair amount of criticism go.

But, just because I'm lazy and a creature of habit, I usually go to "Watch Paul" from your link. Which you've removed this morning I see.

Dude or dudette, that is so, like, totally lame. You already ride the line of credibility, but come on, provide the reciprocal link.

Allow your fans and detractors to judge for themselves-a Maxxam-like coverup does not become you.

-JMan

J-Man,

My detractors are not censored. As you've noted, the archives offer plenty of Heraldo bashing.

But since you like local blogs that "ride the line of credibility" I will bring back the link to Rose's blog just for you.

Well thanks, you're much more entertaining than Rose anyway, although I do enjoy her mind-numbingly conspiratorial rants.

-JMan

You don't think Heraldo tops me in the conspiratorial rant department?

I love you both equally, you silly advocates.

Glad you're both out there, I'll take exuberant passion over sarcastic apathy any day.

-JMan

Glad you're out there too, JMan.

Hey anonymous 2:30 you’re comment on Cobb shows your own lack of critical thinking. You address nothing in his article, but dismiss it because Cobb agrees with Soros on something you never mention. Your spinning style would probably get you a guest appearance on Hannity or at least O’Riley. You are right about one thing though, 6 years of republican rule have pretty much done this country in. Maybe it’s time you woke up to your own idiocy. Keep cheering on the people that give you that great patriotic feeling while they stick it up your ass.

Well David you're snoken' some god stuff if you think them'thaarr Soros school ideas are your own. You are a good conman just not very bright.

Heard Cobb today begg'n for money on HMUD. He said he gave a donation. Nice he can spend our college kids money. It sure as hell isn't his. Well to be fair,I think his live in has a job so he could have robbed her purse.
